VeganMed CEO to Speak at First-Ever Congressional Briefing on Alpha-gal Syndrome

The U.S. Capitol will host its first-ever Congressional briefing dedicated to alpha-gal syndrome, a condition caused by tick bites that results in severe allergic reactions to mammalian meat, featuring a panel of esteemed experts and advocates.

The Alpha-gal Alliance Action Fund, in collaboration with Representatives Abigail Spanberger and Andrew Garbarino, will host the first-ever Congressional briefing on Alpha-gal Syndrome, titled “Alpha-gal Syndrome: An Emerging Epidemic,” on May 2, 2024.


The briefing will feature a notable lineup of experts, including Sachin A. Shah, CEO of VeganMed, who will address the challenges of finding suitable medications for patients with Alpha-gal Syndrome. This session is a critical opportunity to discuss the impact of this tick-borne condition, which causes severe allergic reactions to mammalian meat.


Joining Sachin A. Shah at the briefing will be a distinguished group of speakers including Scott Commins, MD, PhD, William J. Yount, MD Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina, who will provide insights into the clinical aspects of alpha-gal syndrome. Charles Green, Deputy Commissioner at the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, will share his personal experience living with the condition. Sharon Forsyth, Co-founder of the Alpha-gal Alliance Action Fund, will discuss key policy priorities, alongside Debbie Nichols and Candice Matthis, Co-founders of Two Alpha Gals, who will address advocacy efforts and community support.
