Vegan Medications: Alpha-gal and Vegan-Friendly Physician Database

Updated: 16 hours ago

Please note: This is not a complete list of every physician who is well-versed in Alpha-gal Syndrome. This list only includes physicians who are collaborating with VeganMed. There is no financial transaction between VeganMed and these physicians.

Alpha-gal Syndrome (AGS), also known as alpha-gal allergy, is a severe allergic reaction to products containing the sugar molecule alpha-gal (galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose). This molecule is found in most mammals, including pork, cattle, rabbit, and lamb, as well as in mammalian products like gelatin and dairy. Unfortunately, AGS remains relatively unknown to many healthcare professionals. In one survey, 42% of healthcare providers reported being unaware of AGS, while 35% lacked confidence in diagnosing or managing AGS patients. This lack of awareness can make it particularly challenging for individuals to receive a proper diagnosis or find alpha-gal-friendly medications.

At VeganMed, we are committed to easing this burden by supporting the alpha-gal community, those with specific allergies to excipients or ingredients, and individuals opting for an animal-free lifestyle for personal, religious, or dietary reasons. To help patients in their search for suitable medications and knowledgeable physicians, we’ve created a guide featuring physicians who collaborate with VeganMed. These professionals understand the importance of identifying animal-free medications and receive educational resources on AGS and how to assist patients in managing medication changes to meet their dietary needs. These physicians will help ensure that every alpha-gal patient receives quality care, no matter what state they may reside in.
