neffy: The first nasal epinephrine spray!

The FDA recently approved neffy, a groundbreaking nasal spray manufactured by ARS Pharma. This innovative product is the first of its kind, offering a new approach to treating severe allergic reactions.

What is epinephrine?

Epinephrine, also known as adrenaline, is a crucial medication for treating severe allergic reactions, known as anaphylaxis. During an allergic reaction, the body releases chemicals that can cause the airways to tighten and blood pressure to drop, posing a life-threatening risk. Epinephrine works rapidly to reverse these symptoms by opening the airways and raising blood pressure, making it easier to breathe and preventing shock.

What is neffy?

neffy is a new nasal spray approved for treating severe allergic reactions, or anaphylaxis. It delivers epinephrine through a single dose sprayed into one nostril. Studies have shown that neffy provides similar levels of epinephrine in the blood as traditional epinephrine injections and works effectively to raise blood pressure and heart rate, which are crucial for managing anaphylaxis. For children over 66 pounds, neffy’s effects are comparable to those in adults. If symptoms don’t improve, a second dose can be used. However, patients should still seek emergency medical help for further treatment and monitoring.

What are the common side effects of neffy?

The most common side effects of neffy include:

Additional warnings include:

  • Consult a healthcare professional if you have specific coexisting conditions or sulfite allergies.

Differences between nasal spray epinephrine and autoinjector epinephrine

Is neffy animal-free?

VeganMed is thrilled to confirm that neffy is animal-free! The nasal spray contains no ingredients derived from animals, and the device itself is also free from animal-based components. This makes neffy a suitable choice for those who prefer products without animal derivatives. Plus, we're happy to share that neffy is also carrageenan-free!

Why a Needle-Free Epinephrine Option is Important

neffy marks a significant advancement in treating severe allergic reactions, providing a needle-free alternative to traditional epinephrine auto-injectors. With 25 to 40 million people in the U.S. at risk for anaphylaxis, and many avoiding epinephrine injections due to needle discomfort, neffy offers a crucial solution. Its ease of use can help ensure timely treatment, especially for individuals with conditions like Alpha-gal Syndrome who carry auto-injectors. By making life-saving treatment more accessible and less intimidating, neffy has the potential to improve outcomes and reduce the need for emergency services or hospitalization.
